Astronomy Picture of the Day BARNES AND NOBLE GASES
What could be better than the niche calendars hawked by your local
book seller? With apologies to Far Side, PEN has found a contender:
the Web-based Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD). APOD was
developed by two NASA scientists who recognized the educational
value of NASA's vast photographic archives. Thus, if you go to
http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/astropix.html each morning, not only
do you see the day's date, but you also get a beautiful astronomical image
accompanied by hyperlinked explanations of the picture, written
by scientists.

relation to the Madaba Plain and the Rift Valley. This image is provided in
two sizes, ca. 640 X 480 and ca. 800 X 600 pixels to accomodate the most
common monitor resolutions. You can use this image to spice up your web
pages, or to make slides to illustrate your lectures.
You can find it by going to my MPP web publication page and following the
link to the map page.
